this bike was built by one of my best bike mates matt j in sydney about 6 or 7 years ago. i remember being blown away by this bike when he pulled up at my cafe in sydney on it all those years ago....it had no front brake then.....but then neither did my 1950 norton...

featured in DicE about 6 years ago....i dont know.....maybe issue 8 or 9?.....

anyway...as are all of matts builds....perfectly engineered and dialed in, ride anywhere.

mikes wl oil tank...

....about four or five years ago AR gave me a head off his old commando....totally rooted and never to be resurrected, it sat gathering dust and mud wasps until the other day.....

...goes around and comes around.

i used to love listening to tony joe white....

with my mate jon after my dad died back in 94... my dad listened to tony joe and ccr and hank williams all the time.

saw tjw in sydney a few times and had a beer with him before one show at the basement. i called out to him to play elements and things for me that night and he did.....its always been my favourite song of his.

is all spaced out and aligned now.....fitting up this triumph conical hub has proven a bit of a task but its looking good at last.

im trying something a bit different with this one....ive machined up a set of spacers that will eventually work like sporty axle adjusters.

i built a set of my stainless bars for jake a few months back...anyway, he's got his bike on the road again and took it for a shakedown run this weekend.

...is all mounted up now. mike had the box supplied/rebuilt by David down at Modak in Melbourne. it looks great all bead blasted with its original selector pointer etc.

check out how close the top adjuster mount sits compared to the original wl oil tank mount...you can guess what im gonna do there no doubt.

...feel great on the bike...not too wide...not too narrow.

springer clamp and bars...

always bugs me i can seem to get a good design for a springer top clamp...i tried one on my 48 but wasn't happy...anyway here's my latest attempt, on mikes wl. this one im happy with...also allows the changing of bars to suit the riding...

i milled the clamp ends to accept standard old yamaha handlebar clamps...

then cut up a set of my stainless bars and narrowed them

mike picked up his frame today...

from the powdercoaters and delivered it to the shed. it looks great. i didnt want to have a frame that looked like we file finished for 50 hours on it, thats not what this bike is about. just like a 32 ford in the 50's being stripped down and rodded this is my idea of what a wl rodded in the 50's might have looked like...gonna love putting this one together now...
