mikes wl ... gearbox...

...is all mounted up now. mike had the box supplied/rebuilt by David down at Modak in Melbourne. it looks great all bead blasted with its original selector pointer etc.

check out how close the top adjuster mount sits compared to the original wl oil tank mount...you can guess what im gonna do there no doubt.

...feel great on the bike...not too wide...not too narrow.

springer clamp and bars...

always bugs me i can seem to get a good design for a springer top clamp...i tried one on my 48 but wasn't happy...anyway here's my latest attempt, on mikes wl. this one im happy with...also allows the changing of bars to suit the riding...

i milled the clamp ends to accept standard old yamaha handlebar clamps...

then cut up a set of my stainless bars and narrowed them

mike picked up his frame today...

from the powdercoaters and delivered it to the shed. it looks great. i didnt want to have a frame that looked like we file finished for 50 hours on it, thats not what this bike is about. just like a 32 ford in the 50's being stripped down and rodded this is my idea of what a wl rodded in the 50's might have looked like...gonna love putting this one together now...

rob has finished a first pass with the blaster on the body and i am amazed at how good it is....the cowl is fantastic.... floor is all but gone but then i would have removed it anyway so thats ok...dash is good doors are fantastic....one patch needed on each bottom right along the length of the door....all the moulding lines are perfect on the doors and they are relatively unmolested.

the rear end of the body was obviously cut off at some stage....maybe someone backed into a tree...cause the rear section thats on it cant be from this car as its got an overlap where its been joined....no matter cause its not bad.

so overall its looking great. we are removing some internal timber in the roof section to blast some more and she can come home.

is all done now...i ended up having to chase down some weak spots in the rear section where it had been lengthened previously.

i tried to resist the urge to over grind and finish it to rather leave a surface that was slightly less refined and thus a little closer to the original finish...which is pretty rough to say the least.

off to the blaster and powdercoater tomorrow. Doesn't normally take more than a week so. So ill hopefully be mounting that front end, motor and box next weekend.

one of my earliest memories as a kid was sitting on my grandfathers shoulders and picking blood plumbs off his tree in the western suburbs of sydney.....and then stuffing my face with them sitting on the grass...

last year i had two plums off our trees but this year i have a harvest....cant wait for next year.

is ready for final frame clean up and welding now...ill have a big night on it tomorrow and then off to blasting and powdercoating on tuesday...

finally got the coupe down to the farm....well almost....its at the blasters getting a clean up before it gets here...ive got motor, gearbox, clutch, diff, wheels..(not tyres yet)..., front axle, brakes, and a bunch of other parts already.....i need a 32 chassis if anyone wants to part with one....
